November 2004
From Thursday, December 23, 2004 to Friday, January 7, 2005 Automa's telephone support service will be suspended for Christmas holidays.
From January, the 10th our technicians will be again completely available for all Super-Flash customers: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 12:00pm for those wanting to take advantage of the free technical support, while all the companies with a technical support subscription can call everyday (Mondays through Fridays) from 9:00am to 12:00pm and from 3:00pm to 6:00pm (Italian time zone).
Super-Flash is Automa's development system for realizing supervision and human-machine interface applications.
These applications may monitor the operation of plants or machines only, as well as, have advanced supervision and control functionalities in order to manage manufacturing phases through a PC. Thanks to the WRUNFILE and RUNFILE engines, Super-Flash applications can count on an high operation continuity. Besides being extremely reliable, the development system is also flexible for creating applications suitable for the most part of industrial sectors, as well as, for specific fields as Building Automation. Super-Flash is also easy for use of end-users without a basic knowledge in programming languages and permits the design of effective graphic interfaces for organizing information in the best way. Leading product of the Supervisione Libera line (a products range for making the realization of SCADA/HMI applications and their integration with fields and information systems easier), Automa's development system is available with some specific services such as the technical support and the basic/advanced training courses held by products' developers. Knowing the numerous product features, as well as, satisfying curiosities and doubts is possible by:
The advantages of using Automa's development system are objective and obvious, but in a period where costs are highly considered by companies, the investment in new automation technologies is hard, if not impossible.
With this awareness and with the objective of helping end-users to save money and develop the automation, Automa offers Super-Flash Runtime. The development system is ready for straight away use by downloading it for free directly from the FreeDownload page, where upgrades will be also available. Even being completely free, it is not a demo product, but a complete development system. Without initial investments, the opportunity of realizing applications for end-users is available; the hardware or software activation keys for running applications might be purchased later at a specific cost according to the dimension of the developed applications. Five purchase options, all of them very competitive, are available based on the number of variables and alarms used in the application. In order to allow customers to optimize investments in automation, Automa offers also a second Super-Flash commercial solution, Royalty-Free one with initial investments but no additional costs for application licences. Also the most part of Super-Flash optional products and communication drivers may be purchased by choosing between the following commercial solutions:

In May 2004, Automa released Super-Flash 3.8.
Besides improving some software functionalities, the new version is distinguished by two important innovations which will help its expansion in the international market. The first one is that the development system, by this time completely integrated with Windows, is available in both Italian and English languages, being soon also in Spanish and German. The international process started some years ago first with the release of the 2.0 version and later with the 3.2 by rendering the development system available in three languages: Italian, English and Spanish, along with 11 different dictionaries for the applications. The second innovation is that Super-Flash Runtime users may purchase the licences for running the applications by choosing between hardware or software activation keys. This innovation has been especially implemented to facilitate the use of the product by foreign end-users. For further information about Super-Flash and its 3.8 version, visit the Super-Flash page in the Products section.
October 2004
Besides offering Super-Flash in various languages to render the Development System international, Automa always points to the product flexibility by giving it the capacity to communicate with a number, each time higher, of different peripherals and tools.
Exactly for this, Super-Flash is continuously enriched with new communication drivers; up to today the software includes more than 70 drivers (native ones, DLL ones and those developed with MicroC). Also this month, Automa proposes a new driver that will be available within the end of October: SFSBUSDM allows a Super-Flash application to manage the communication, also in Ethernet, with a SAIA PLC network. SFSBUSDM will be available in the Download section of this website in the Runtime commercial solution, that is a licence for a single application. For further information, download the Product Profile or contact Automa directly at (+39) 035.32.33.911.
As announced in the previous AutomaNews, Automa proposes Spylog, the monitoring software that acquires, process, stores, displays and prints data about analog measurements coming from industrial instruments, machines and plants.
The product, implemented according to the 21 CFR Part 11, is characterized by the high reliability and safety of the handled data. It is also possible to connect it with any system through the Modbus communication protocol. For those without an own data acquisition system, Automa gives a solution capable of communicating with the field and detecting, as well as warning immediately, anomalies in the software running, due to factors beyond the control of Spylog (for example the PC operating system). For further information, download the Spylog Technical Card or contact Automa directly also for receiving the product's Demo version for free.
Energy saving is one of the main subjects in the Italian industrial system, especially in the last year when the petrol price has reached the higher cost in the history.
For years, Automa is present in the energy sector with solutions for the automation. On this subject, we intend to propose an old article which illustrates Automa's collaboration with the BAS company (Bergamo Ambiente e Servizi) for the development of a supervision system. The software, realized with Super-Flash has the objective of monitoring a plant, up till now very innovative, for energy recovery in the gas distribution network of Bergamo. The article " Energy recovery and monitoring for a calm future" is available, along with other editorial articles regarding applications developed with Automa products, in the Press Review section of this website.
For some years, Automa is one of the sponsors of "Vivere al sole", a Comunità Emmaus' project addressed to kids involved in the AIDS problem and, because of this, forced to live their childhood in the "shadow".
A group of operators and volunteers take care of them by offering parties, meetings and holidays, looking after them at home and hospitals, guaranteeing social, educational and psychological support, as well as, helping the kids and their families to overcome the various difficulties. The project also takes an interest in awaking and prevention with instructive interventions in schools and throughout the territory of Bergamo (Italy). "Vivere al sole" has also a website developed by some Automa employees who also are volunteers of the project. Besides giving a lot of information regarding the association activities and the AIDS issue in general, it offers an helpful service: "Ask? Answer!" is a "telematic listening point", managed by a professional team with strong expertise who answer questions about the various subjects linked to the HIV virus, epidemic, sickness, therapy, as well as, to the numerous and complex social implications. Among other activities the kids of "Vivere al sole" are involved, as each year in this period, in the realization of numerous drawings for creating a very original "desk" calendar which will contribute to the project financing. For further information about the project and/or for reserving your own desk calendar, that may become a beautiful corporate gadget, visit the www.viverealsole.it website or call Automa to talk directly with the volunteers. Besides being a beautiful and useful object for every desk, the calendar will help a lot the kids of "Vivere al sole".
September 2004
In the last years, a lot of regulations in terms of public safety put in the first place the demand of keeping data, parameters and variables of every system and industrial plant under control.
In order to satisfy this, Automa offers Spylog, a monitoring software that acquires, processes, stores, displays and prints data relative to analog measurements coming from industrial instruments, machines and plants. Developed for the pharmaceutical sector where the constant, reliable and accurate data control is fundamental, Spylog is compliant with the "21 CFR Part 11", the FDA regulation for electronic records and their authentication through the use of the electronic signature. The higher software flexibility makes it also suitable for other sectors where the continuous monitoring is equally important. For further information regarding the product, contact Automa directly at (+39) 035.32.33.911.
Automa, always researching for new solutions in order to satisfy market needs, enriches often its own products with new software functionalities and services.
Also this month, the company proposes a new communication driver in order to make Super-Flash more flexible than ever, as well as, adaptable to the most varied requirements. In fact, thanks to the TwinDrw DLL driver, the applications developed with Super-Flash are now able to communicate with the Twincat Soft-PLCs of Beckhoff and manage byte, single and double word resources. The driver, available on CD or downloadable from this website at the Download section, can be bought in two commercial solutions: Royalty-Free, that is for use of an unlimited number of applications, or Runtime, that is a licence for a single application. For further information please contact Automa directly at (+39) 035.32.33.911.
The numerous accesses to the webpage dedicated to our partners (about a thousand since June 2004), indicate the success Super-Flash Integrators' business initiative is having since May 2004.
To render the initiative still more interesting, Automa enriched each Integrator's box, containing its company profile, with a link to one or more articles describing Super-Flash applications developed by the Integrator. This new press review service, now available for some integrators, will help visitors to know more about the company. The integrators' webpage, now available also in the English version, can be found in the Partners section of this website. For further information about the business initiative or how to become an Integrator, contact us at (+39) 035.32.33.911.
Some years ago Automa started to make Super-Flash international.
With the latest 3.8 version, completely integrated with Windows, the development system is now available in English as well as in Italian. But the process of promoting, more than ever, Super-Flash around the world is not over. As a matter of fact, Automa opened a new project for realizing the software also in German. In this way, the development system will be available in three languages (Italian, English and German); the applications, instead, will have as always 11 different dictionaries. For further information regarding the software, visit Automa website's Super-Flash webpage, or contact us directly at (+39) 035.32.33.911.
July 2004
Number 32 July 2004 - Telephone support line on holiday from August, Monday 9th to August, Friday 27th, 2004
Automa's telephone support line will be suspended from August, Monday 9th, 2004 to August, Friday 27th, 2004 for summer holidays.

For a long time now the "mad cow" disease, the dioxin problem in some belgian farms and other similar events put the traceability subject in the first place, specially in the meat chain composed of all those companies contributing to the production, delivery, marketing and supply (farming, foddering, breeding, slaughtering, manufacturing, packing and labeling, delivery) of meat products.
La Castellana (MI) is one of the first animal feeds manufacturers to implement a modern and efficient traceability system in Italy thanks to the collaboration with Farmer S.p.A. and Gamba Automazioni. The supervision system managing and controlling the production was developed with Super-Flash choosen by Gamba Automazioni, company specialized in the automation of numerous plants in different industrial sectors, because of its high reliability. Nowadays La Castellana has a very safe, easy to use and capable traceability system which, along with the various chain level system, follows the entire production cycle from the farm to the table. For a deeper analysis about the subject, read the "Traceability as password" article, Automazione Industriale magazine published in the May 2004 issue.

Along the years the tracking process became one of the most dominant subjects in numerous industrial sectors.
The necessity to know where a product is in a specified time, as well as, all the information regarding its production is becoming each day more important. From one side, numerous companies such as the agroindustrial ones had, or will have soon, to adequate themselves to the various regulations formulated by the European Union regarding tracking processes; on the other hand an efficient tracking system gives a high added value to companies high-ranking more than ever the issue. As a matter of fact, producers have understood that production tracking is the proof of having a high quality production system in the company; that restricting the collection of defective merchandise to the damaged production lot (for reducing collection costs and social alarm) is a great advantage and that being able to individuate easily the problem origin helps also to identify correctly responsibilities, as well as, avoid big financial and law charges. Automa, from some years now, is facing this problematic and nowadays can speak highly of some expertise in the printing, rubber and food & beverage sectors.
For a long time now Automa is present in the international market. In the last months the process of making Automa products and services become international grew fast in order to face the new challenges coming from a larger European Union and the economic growth of countries such as China.
Since May 2004, a new version of Super-Flash development system is available in both English and Italian languages along with 11 different dictionaries for the applications and the bilingual software documentation. Besides offering its own products in more languages, Automa has made its services become also international: its website, with the English version constantly updated and articles describing applications developed with Automa products in various countries. For some years Automa is planning and developing solutions to integrate business information systems.
Research and development activities achieved the development of SIR (Product Profile), an EPS system able to automize both production department data collection and communication between this system and management systems in one side, and fields on the other. The system has been already tested in the rotary printing sector, but the architecture is applicable to all production departments with the appropriate modifications. The advantadges for end-users are numerous and involve moreover information availability to allow department personnel to carry out their individual jobs, the control of the production good functioning and time reduction in documenting activities (report reduction, bureaucracy reduction, elimination of transcription errors, elimination of repeated data entry operations, etc.). SIR is a concrete example of how Automa in few years succeeded in acquiring and putting into practice successfully its own expertise in integration.
In order to achieve the strategy of satisfying maintenance requirements, in 2000 Automa, a first-level company in the industrial automation sector, decided to find a partner skilled in software development and able to operate continuously with MainteX in order to render it more competitive and desirable.
After a careful research, in the first months of 2001 Automa started to work with Intré, an affirmed and dynamic company which thanks to its skilled and understanding team operates successfully in the development environment, as well as, in the management of software products planned to solve problematics in the industrial automation sector. The understanding between both companies turned out to be unbeatable thanks to the sinergy created by sharing their specific expertises and the collaboration relationship immediately established. The project team is composed of people extremely flexible, open to challenges and longing for new knowledge.
Metalmeccanica Spaggiari is operating from 1976 in the engineering sector, particularly in the lifting, warehousing and handling of heavy and bulky materials sector.
To satisfy the market needs regarding operators and materials warehousing safety, the company developed Sistema AS Multistep, a true and proper intelligent warehouse planned to facilitate operators at the most in materials loading/unloading operations, assuring both materials and operators safety. The benefits brought to the production cycle by using this solution are numerous: time reduction, reduction of materials handling risks for operators; automatic stock update which allows to obtain materials order plans and stocktake situations always updated accurately; optimization in work oders management which facilitates a quick investment return; recuperation of areas dedicated to warehousing thanks to automatic warehousing: they are developed in height while in the traditional ones long and cumbersome materials are usually left to operators to be safely controlled. Sistema AS Multistep is equipped with a particular supervision software because it is able to do both the typical control functions and the activities usually integrated with the management software: planning of warehousing operations, handling weight feed-back to order for the accounting department and automatic stock update. Thanks to the use of Super-Flash along with MicroC, products distinguished because of their high flexibility and reliability, Azzali Elettronica succeeded in integrating in just one software three business information systems levels: PBC (PLC Based Control), HMI (Human Machine Interface) and EPS (Enterprise Production Systems).
On Automa's website, in the Press Review section, we have published an article regarding our company:
"Logistics gives itself a shake", Automazione Industriale, December 2003-January 2004
The article talks about a Super-Flash application developed by Azzali Elettronica for Metalmeccanica Spaggiari, an affirmed company skilled in the planning, development, marketing, assistance support and certification of automatic warehousing plants managing long and cumbersome materials.
February 2004
With the 3.7 version, Super-Flash has completed an important journey started in 2001 with the objective of migrating from DOS to Windows operating systems.
This change allows end-users both to make applications run on both operating systems according to their needs, and to use the new simple and intuitive graphic editor. Super-Flash 3.7, in fact, has an end-user interface completely integrated with Windows which renders application development faster, simplifies the graphic design of pages and allows the use of new functionalities. In order to facilitate the passage from DOS versions (from 3.0 to 3.3) to Super-Flash 3.7, Automa organizes updating training courses. The training courses, of about 4 hours each, will be held at Automa's headquarters and are addressed to our customers using our development system and wanting to pass, quickly and at learning low-costs, to the new version. To ask for more information regarding this, call Automa to (+39) 035.32.33.911 or write us to sales@automa.it.
MainteX, (product brochure), Automa's software which allows end-users to control efficiently the programmed, corrective and overtime maintenance, is available in two versions, both of them buyable through Internet.
The STANDARD version addresses to those who are managing a plant or a complex system and needing, in fact, an illimited number of cards and elements to maintain. This version is supplied with an end-user license for a single PC and includes Dolphin, a software developed to help EPS/Ems application developers. The EXPRESS version, instead, is ideal for those who have to control less complex plants or if having to choose among various maintenance systems, want to restrict their investment costs. MainteXpress costs only €199,00 and supplies 100 elements and 50 cards. It is both convenient and easy to buy the product. Thanks to MainteX e-commerce website, it is possible to try it, evaluate it, buy it and install it while being just in front of a PC. By accessing the FreeDownload section on our site, it is possible to download the setup program. The system has a software protection key; an activation code is necessary to make it work. According to the license bought, the product will work in one of the two proposed versions. The activation keys may be asked to Automa by filling-in and sending the registration form which appears after executing the application, or directly through MainteX e-commerce website. A demo version giving everyone the possibility to try the maintenance system before buying it, is also available in the website. After installing it without inserting the activation codes, the product will work with the following limitations: insertion of maximum 3 maintenance cards and limitations regarding intervention final balance sheets. All the other functionalities are active and similar to the STANDARD version. The architecture of the MainteX e-commerce website is simple and functional in order to facilitate information tracing to have a general and precise overview of the functionalities and features of the maintenance system. In order to avoid doubts and to satisfy every curiosity regarding how the maintenance system works, the software supplies a simple online help.
In order to guarantee the existence of fresh and abundant snow in the ski world championship 2002-2003 held in St. Moritz, the steering committee in charge of its planning entrusted the development of a turn-key system to manage successfully the problems regarding snow scarcity to DEMAC, a company from Alto Adige skilled in the planning and development of high technological snowfall plants.
The technical snowfall plant developed was a complex one and consisted mainly of two groups of machines:
The electrical and automation part was controlled by ELA, a company specialized in the development and management of electrical plants, which chose Super-Flash to develop the supervision software for the plant.
On February 25th, 2004 a Super-Flash 3.7 basic training course of about 4 hours will be held at Automa's headquarters.
The training course is addressed to those who have never used our development system and want to learn the various software functionalities quickly and at low-costs. During the course, the responsible for the product, Claudio Volpi, will show you some applications developed with Super-Flash for both industrial environments and building automation, including the one developed to manage the EIB illumination plant present in our headquarters. In order to render the learning the most efficient possible, the number of people that may take part in each basic training course is limited. Anyone interested in taking part in a training course or in having more information, may call directly Automa at (+39) 035.32.33.911 or send an e-mail to sales@automa.it.
On Automa's website, in the Press Review section, we have published an article regarding our company:
"SCADA on the snow", Automazione Industriale, November 2003
The article talks about a Super-Flash application developed by ELA for DEMAC, an affirmed company from Alto Adige skilled in the planning and development of high technological snowfall plants.
January 2004
As we announced on Automanews in November, it is now possible to download Super-Flash 3.7 latest version from Automa's website.
The version is available as Royalty-Free for all our customers with an active updating contract and as Runtime for those wanting to check it out and start to use it free. The package contains:
Considering that the new version is an innovative one, Automa remembers its availability to organize standard training courses for those that do not know deeply the development system, as well as, advanced courses for those using already the software but wanting both to optimize the training costs by passing from a previous version to the latest, and subject the company to specific and particular complex problematics.
The large low-cost diffussion of modern communication technologies as SMS and E-mail drove Automa to increase Super-Flash potential functionalities with two new products (now available) allowing end-users to evolve the traditional concept of plant telemanagement: from supervision constant presence to the possibility of reach operators directly through cell phones/PCs even if away from supervision central workstations.
SendSMS (Product Profile SendSMS) and M-Box (Product Profile M-Box) allow a Super-Flash application to send SMS through a GSM modem and e-mail easy and securely. The objective is to provide plants supplied with Super-Flash applications with the ability to transmit information regarding its functioning to different operators, according to shifts, and scattered throughout the territory. Those abilities render less necessary the supervision presence in the plants as well as periodical inspections less frequent for geographical distributed systems. Confirming its characteristic of being a vanguard company and always ready to the use of new technologies, Automa made in 2004 two innovative products available that will render Super-Flash even more flexible and ready to satisfy its end-users demands.
In order to reduce the necessary investment to develop SCADA/HMI applications, Automa made the free development system Super-Flash Runtime, available some time ago.
This commercial suggestion allows end-users to download the software from Automa's website free to subsequently buy the smart keys to run the applications. In order to help those that download and use Super-Flash Runtime to optimize the product estimated and learning costs, Automa thought of a special offer that links a short, but intense, training session to a privileged telephone assistance service.
